The new lady justice statue unveiled by the Chief Justice
Was taken aback to find this news. I thought it had to be misreported. The statue of lady justice is no longer blindfolded inviting the derision from the common people that depicts the truth of Indian judiciary where the only true law is the face law. The sword is replaced by the constitution. The lawyers and litigants familiar of the working of the Supreme Court is fully aware that Article 32 and 137 has quite literally been erased from the constitution inasmuch invariably all 32 petitions, except those by the VIPs, are dismissed in less than a minute. Petitions under Art 137 don’t even see the light of day and are dismissed in chambers without a hearing.
The blindfold which is universally recognised as a symbol of being impartial being replaced doesn’t not augur too well for the justice delivery system. Why waste time fixing what isn’t broken when we have so many more burning issues. The time has come to pay attention to the real issues rather than being caught up in symbolism and glorifying it.
